L’Europe n’aurait-elle pas intérêt à tout faire pour arrimer définitivement la Turquie à l’Europe plutôt que de lui proposer un contrat d’association privilégié sans perspectives sûres ? Ou alors, doit-on la laisser suivre son destin seule et risquer d’en faire un adversaire potentiel incontrôlable ?

Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gul has pledged in an interview with EUobserver to change “in a few weeks time” a notorious penal code article curbing free speech, saying that Ankara will continue reforms even if the “climate” in the EU towards Ankara’s membership bid is currently not optimal.

The European Commission is drafting a new EU policy for trade and security cooperation among Black Sea states, but Russia - a major regional player with a naval force in the Crimean peninsula - has already begun sniping at the scheme.
