  Speaking some time ago, Republican People’s Party, or CHP, deputy leader Gürsel Tekin made some vague comments about the choosing of the party’s candidates for the upcoming election.
  “Starting with me, the candidacy of any of our candidates is not certain yet and not guaranteed either. It is not in Mr. [Kemal] Kılıçdaroğlu’s nature to give any guarantees to newcomers. The list to be announced on April 11 is important.”

  EU monitors Alevi reform

  The ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) reform initiative on the status of Alevis, a distinct and liberal movement in Islam with its believers mostly found in Turkey and Syria, has attracted the attention of the European Union.

  How will the DTP vote on a motion to authorize a cross-border operation? The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) decided to send a motion to Parliament to authorize the military for an operation into northern Iraq. Earlier, Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt had said they were awaiting a “political decision” on the matter. As the terrorist attacks increased and the number of martyrs escalated, there was no room left for the AKP.   The Democratic Society Party (DTP) aims to harmonize with small parties on the left in large cities during the general elections, a party official said yesterday.
  The party has already decided to run with independent candidates and announced its withdrawal from the elections as a party. Confident of a good performance in southeastern Anatolia, the party now seeks ways to do the same in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Konya, Manisa, Muğla, Kocaeli, Antalya, Bursa and Denizli.
